IPNEWS-Monrovia: In the wake of several reported police brutality against peaceful citizens resulting to death of a little Francis Mensah in West Point, driver Alieu Sheriff in Gardnersville, and as well as the failure of the police leadership to protect its own officer, Gibson Koung-Unit 147 after he was manhandled by security officers assigned to Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui while carry out his duties in traffic, the leader of the political pressure group Green Revolution of Liberia (GROL), Varney Gbeisay Kromah has labelled the Inspector General (IG) of the Liberia National Police (LNP) as ‘number one enemy of the state and destroyer of civil Liberty’.
Mr. Kromah characterizes the Liberia National Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue as a leader who lacks vision, unable to provide guidance to his men, has poor leadership quality, and lacks the professionalism to uphold the act of policing. He stated the Police IG is a ‘destroyer of civil of liberty evidenced with the numerous acts of arbitrary clampdowns his police officers often carry out under his reported command’.
Addressing the press in Monrovia during the week, the leader of GROL called on the Justice Ministry to review the police report on the death of little Francis Mensah in West Point during the first phase of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 when it was reported that the child suffered police violence by reportedly wasting boiling water on his skin while attempting to chase violators of the lockdown in the Township of West Point. Mr. Kromah also wants the Justice Ministry to review the police report that surreptitiously cleared the Minister of State with Portfolio of assault charges against an LNP senior officer-Unit 147 while carrying out his duty in traffic.
Commenting on the death of truck driver Alieu Sheriff along the Japanese Freeway on July 29, 2021, the GROL leader disclosed his manhandling resulted to his failure to bribe the police for his truck to be released. He wants the Justice Ministry to institute a probe in the incident and not the police investigating itself.
Commenting further, Kromah stated Patrick Sudue leadership as lackadaisical as usual, refused to inform the public when the incident occurred, and to make contact with the family of Alieu Sheriff as per the standard, but decided to put up his normal arrogance by providing unjustifiable defenses which angered the public and took up to the streets in demand of justice recently.
“With these allegations made above, it was also a great shock to us for the police department to claim that officer Koung complaint lack substance and that the Minister was being cleared from all wrongdoing even though Minister Kpui was heard on a local Radio station admitting that his vehicle was on the scene at the time of the incident but the scuffle was between his personal securities and officers Koung which validated the officer complaint” the GROL leader emphasized.
The Green Revolution of Liberia leader has asked President George Weah to dismiss Police IG Sudue with immediate effect due to his unprofessionalism, lack of technical knowhow to manage a sensitive institution like the LNP before his lack of leadership derail the peace the Nation is presently enjoying or GROL will organise series of political pressure on the Office of the President, including peaceful protest against IG Sudue leadership and peaceful sit-in actions in front of the President office until their demands are met.
