Deputy House Speaker Rubbishes Assault Claims -Writes Police IG To Investigate

IPNEWS: Liberia remains an interesting place not only for the common man but also people in the government circle.

It all happened on Saturday, July 3, 2021 when some individuals in an unmarked car ran into the private vehicle of Deputy House Speaker, Johnathan Fonati Koffa in a traffic jam throwing verbal insults even though he was duly recognized by the pairs.
As the controversy ensued, Police Officers immediately moved onto scene and brought the situation under control.

But sadly after the incident, the pairs including an unidentified lady (currently worked with British Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, Ferus Cochrane-Dye) launched a social media campaign accusing Deputy Speaker of ‘Abuse of Power’.

Amidst the continued accusation, the office of Deputy Speaker, Johnathan Fonati Koffa has categorically termed the accusation by the pairs as disingenious and a falsehood intended to bring the Deputy Speaker reputation into public disrepute.

According to the communication consultant in the office of Deputy Speaker Koffa, Leroy Sonpon told IPNEWS that the unnamed lady and her husband riding an unmarked Audi unconsciously ran into the vehicle of the Grand Kru County District #2 lawmaker and reign insults at the Deputy Speaker, Cllr. Johnathan Fonati Koffa. The pairs further attempted assaulting the two police who arrived on the scene.

Contrary to the accusation by the pairs, Security officers assigned to Deputy Speaker told IPNEWS that Cllr. Koffa does not use convoy during weekends especially off work hours or but for work and official duties.

Meanwhile, IPNEWS has obtained an official complaint filed by Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, calling on Police Inspector-General Patrick T. Sudue, to conduct a speedy investigation into the matter regarding insults on the House Deputy Speaker.

The communication dated July 5, 2021, titled “Request for Investigation”, states : “ Dear Inspector-General , I present my compliments and request that you officially investigate an incident that occurred involving my official pickup (HOR 102) and an Audi vehicle bearing foreign plates (Taxas DM7*N359) on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the Tinker Village area between the hours of 14:00GMT and 3: 00 Liberia time.

I am informed and believed that the occupants of the Audi vehicle was the special Assistant to the British Ambassador and her husband.

I was being driven by Inspector Robert S. Nouwu, of the Liberia National Police, and accompanied by Special Agent Abraham F. Fayiah of the Executive Protection Services (EPS) .

It is being alleged that I exhibited acts unbecoming as Lawmaker and that puts my character in question.

An investigation in this matter will serve the interest of Justice and the rule of law in Liberia.
