IPNEWS-MONROVIA:Former Education Minister Dr. Evelyn Kandakai has received one of the highest honors from the Sub Regional Educational Body, The West African Examination Council( WAEC) as the WAEC Distinguished Friend of Council.
The veteran Liberian educator and role model received such award at the 68th annual council meeting held in Liberia on Tuesday March 2, 2021 via zoom.
Reading few lines of her tribute as testimony for contribution to Liberia’s educational sector and the subregion at large, the veteran educator laid a solid foundation at the Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County for Excellence in Teaching, research and management and also embraced the supervision of research community engagement among others.
As part of her contribution to the Country and other sectors generally, Dr. Kandakai also served as the Educational Secretariat of The Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia as Deputy for text books and Curriculum development for three years.
She also helped in fulfillment of her dreams and desire of African children mainly in West Africa by promoting Peace, Equity and National Development.
Madam Kandakai also served as former Executive Director of the Liberia Education Fund, UNESCO and UNDP coordinator on assessment mission among many others.
Speaking at the honoring ceremony Education Minister Prof. Ansu Sonii said the eminent citizen of Liberia and West Africa and on the continent at large has again brought proud to her mother Land, Liberia.
Presenting the awards, Minister Sonii said the honoree worked is a testimony to the sector and all those in the region as such encourage others to always work hard in what they do because someone somewhere is always watching.
“People remember what you do so always push forward and aim for excellence”, the Liberian education minister added.
According to him the award signifies a record of esteem history for a woman who has an esteem character and her work over the years have impacted several young people on the continent of which Liberia is of no exception.
In brief remarks the honor thanked the council for such an honor bestowed upon her.
She said over the years she has always seen WAEC as a strong hope in the best suit for education in the subregion.
The honoree encouraged her colleagues and partners to do all they can to build the Council up and not to bring it down.
The veteran Liberian educator who lauded various governments for their supports to the council including parents and teachers also urged them to do all in their powers to ensure that WAEC remains a power house in the subregion with emphasis in the educational sector.
She named system of excellence, specific levels and the effectiveness in working with various committees as some of the best attributes she so admired about the council over the years of which she is proud of.
Madam Kandakai who pay tribute to some of her colleagues also made special recognition to God for such historic awards.
