IPNEWS – Monrovia: The internal wrangling at Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is far from over with the latest move by the Human Resource Officer, Ms. Wade Nefuville and Janet Sonpon Sarsih, Program Manager to terminate the contract of Mr. Mohammed E. Fahnbulleh, Executive Director.
It is not yet clear whether based on the organogram of the Anti-Corruption body, these two persons have the authority to fire/terminate the contract of the Executive Director, who is their senior in rank.
Fahnbulleh was “advised to vacate” immediately his “assigned office effective receipt of this note.” It is not clear whether he has now received the letter of termination of this contract.
In this termination to Fahnbulleh today, Friday, March 5, HR Neufville and PM Sarsih state.
“By directive of the Acting Executive Chairperson and consistent with termination provisions within your current consultancy contract, we write to inform you that your contract is terminated effective today, Friday, March 5, 2021.
“Your termination stems from the fact that a review of the Board of Commissioners (Board) minutes concerning you contract renewal reveal the lack of a full board resolution consistent with the hiring of al senior staff of the LACC as provided for by Section 7.1 (d) of the LACC Act.
“You are hereby advised to vacate your assigned office effective upon receipt of this note and to promptly turn over all assets of the LACC within your possession to the LACC Assets Manager by COB Monday, March 8, 2021.”
It can be recalled that Atty. Fahnbulleh and Vice Chairperson, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala have been at each other’s throats with each pointing the fingers of corruption at the other.
Both men have been trading claims and counterclaims, allegations of corruption, unlawful employment and administrative lapses, at each other.
Cllr. Gbala has been openly against the renewal of the Executive Director’s contract.
The former Chairperson of the LACC, Cllr. A. Ndubuisi Nwabudike, who disgracefully left the entity, had done a last-minute renewal of Fahnbulleh’s contract against reported warning from senior staff, including Gbala, that he lacks the competence to be the LACC’s Executive Director. It is stated that Cllr. Gbala had flagged it out in an email opposing the renewal of Fahnbulleh’s contract.
Cllr. Gbala also noted that the general staff have also assessed Fahnbulleh as being inefficient on the job.
However, responding to a local media outlet, last February, Atty. Fahnbulleh alleged that since Gbala’s appointment by President George Weah, he (Gbala) has been involved with series of financial improprieties that warrant his dismissal as per the LACC Act and its rules.
He also charged that when Fahnbulleh was appointed in October 2019, he informed the LACC Board that he had quitted his job with the United Nations Development Program.
