IPNEWS-RIVERGEE COUNTY: President George Weah has disclosed plans to construct fifteen presidential palaces in all of the political sub-division of the country, as well as, building 200 housing units in Fish Town City, RiverGee County.
President Weah, during a visit to RiverGee County recently, promises to develop RiverGee, which is one of the least developed counties in the country. According to President Weah, his desire to develop RiverGee County is in fulfillment of his campaign promises and the need to better the lives of Liberians.
However, President Weah told the people of RiverGee County that the “Presidential Palace” in the county does not represent the kind of object they were talking about.
“It’s unfortunate for people who claimed to have all the knowledge and requisite degrees in the country to build substandard homes for the presidency. I just saw where we stay, and it is called Presidential Palace. I almost drove from that place because it does not represent the Presidency,” President Weah told RiverGee County citizens on his county tour.
President Weah adds “That cannot be called a Presidential Villa. People of RiverGee, it’s a mockery to our flag for a sitting President to go in that building you call Presidential villa. We need to change that name and erect a new one.”
According to President Weah, there is a need to put a valuable building that will represent the country, especially as Liberia is being the oldest African state. He said that his administration will do everything possible to build Presidential Palaces in the various counties.
“RiverGee’s so-called Presidential Palace cannot be called a Villa if the people have respect and value for the leadership of the country,” he reiterated.
“People visiting us must see that you are serious and have respect for the presidency. What if one of my friends were coming with me on this county tour, you know what that building would have told them? We are not serious in this country,” President Weah said.
The Liberian leader further that that will work with lawmakers to build presidential palaces in all 15 counties and completed discussions with the legislative caucus of RiverGee County to break about 200 huts in the county’s capital down to construct 200 modern housing units for the citizens.
“We will design the models of our Presidential palace and build it ourselves so that we will have a place to stay. Our guests who will come will know that Liberian people of prestige. We need to break those huts down in order to give our people a better place to live. RiverGee needs to be built and we all must be responsible to build RiverGee County,” he said.
President Weah added that he has arranged for the provision of 200 solar lights for the cities of the county. President Weah said the provision of electricity to all cities across the country is cardinal and it remains a priority for his administration.
RiverGee County is one of the poorly developed counties to the extent that it does not even have internet coverage.
“We have to go to Maryland in order to send a report to Monrovia. We have to spend good money on transportation,” one of the local officials indicated.
According to students, the situation is leading to their failure, and called on the President to ensure that there is internet in the county to enhance their learning.
