PUL to Challenge Gov’t-Costa No Broadcast Order; Wants Supreme Court Interpretation of Gov’t’s “Fugitive” Claim

IPNews-Monrovia: The Press Union of Liberia,PUL, says it will seek the Supreme Court interpretation over yesterday’s January 17, 2020, warning by the government of Liberia prohibiting ‘Radio Burshrod and other Media Institution’, from broadcasting popular Talkshow Host Henry Petro Costa show ‘The Costa Show’, over cliams that he is a “Wanted PERSON & a FUGITIVE’, evading justice.

In a release, the Press Union of Liberia clearly disclosed ongoing Consultation are with its legal team to seek opinion on the government mandate prohibiting Radio Bushrod (D-15), from broadcasting the talkshow of an acclaimed Political Commentator Henry Costa.

According to the PUL, the outcome of the legal consultation will pave the way for the union’s next course of action which could include, but not limited to legal action before the Supreme Court of Liberia for interpretation of the Weah Administration’s statement.

The Union’ statement come hours after a reported meeting held Monday morning between the D-15 Radio Station Management Team and the Government of Liberia; a forum outcome which availed three days ultimatum for the Weah’s Government to provide evidence in relation to its “Fugitive” allegation against the Talkshow Host, Henry Petro Costa.

While this evidence provision is the pipeline, the Press Union revealed that it sees the protection of free speech and freedom of the press as its code mandate and will do everything in protecting this sacred fundamental right enshrined in article 15 of the Constitution of Liberia.

Captured in the Press Release bearing the signature of the Union’ Secretary General, Musa MB. Kenneh; the Union added that its Leadership is at the same time in advance conversation with the management of D-15 and the Ministry of Information aimed at finding an amicable way forward in the interest of the country’s reputation.

All of these are springing out just 24 hours after the Liberian Government through Information Minister, Ledgerhood J. Rennie; warned Media Institutions specifically D-15 not to host program of Henry Costa on the basis of being described as “Fugitive”.

Meanwhile, the situation has sparked diverse views amongst Citizens both in the Diaspora and Liberia; a debate that comes weeks after the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf- Weah’ “Opulence” Debate.

Long time Economist and Politican, Samuel Jackson, an ally of Henry P. Costa, says the government claims is a ‘ridiculous charge’ intended to stop a citizen from airing his view on a radio station, and shows how weak and inept the government is.

“Which country in the world will charge an individual with a silly crime of forging a laissez passer and grant diplomatic passports to transnational criminals and expect to be taken seriously? And accept a Nigerian fraudster as head of an integrity institution.”

“We Liberians look silly internationally when our government shows such pettiness. The regime and it is a petty one shows it is weak and unable to defend its actions since it wishes to silence one kid in Delaware. ”

“Imagine being ruled by such petty individuals when we are supposed to be beyond our sordid undemocratic past into a democratic dispensation. ”

“The war is over. Taylor is in jail. Doe is dead. We’ve had 18 years of peace. Do not take us back to the dark ages President Weah.”

Samuel Jackson, than stated Information Minister, Ledgerhood Rennie should know better than releasing a statement that would have a disadvantage effect on the image of the Government.

“My dear friend Ledgerhood Julius Rennie should know better as a free speech advocate from Radio Veritas a Catholic institution built by the venerable Michael Francis. Peace be to his ashes.”

“This nonsensical government position must be resisted.” Samuel Jackson posted on social media.

  1. George Yarkpa, Sr.

This government of CDC wants to fight crime? The government must start with the president unexplained wealth acquired two months into his ascendancy to power, the mop up exercise, the use of the 4 billion dollars banknote printed, the stimulus package of $30 million, the murder of Matthew Innis, the murder of 4 auditors, etc. A bona-fide citizen coming home with a laizer passe I don’t see the criminality to say that Costa is a figurine when you have the country infested with high crimes.

  2. Not all radio show should be air expecially the one that poison poeple’s mind, insight, lies all because some one dose not want to see good come out of Liberia.
