IPNews-Monrovia: The authoritative Independent Probe has reliably gathered that former Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, Dr. Sumoward E. Harris is dead three days after his birthday.
According to report, the Lutheran Bishop Emeritus pass yesterday, January 14,2021, after a brief illness.
Dr. Sumoward E. Harris, is remembered in the Liberia Council of Churches, LCC, for his stands that leaders of the Church, constructively engage the government in a proactive manner.
“If we only criticize them in the media, we will close the door to meaningful dialogue with those in government,”
It may be recalled, in October 2007, for the first time in the Lutheran Diocese, all Deacons and Ordained Ministers agreed in a petitioned that the Bishop Sumoward E. Harris, to contest the Bishopric of the Church for his 3rd term.
The move was unprecedented. They said based on the belief that the church remain in tact and free of disunity, Bishop Harris must continue his program of reform.
In furtherance, the Members of the Lutheran Church especially ordained deacons expressed confidence Rev. Dr. Sumoward E. Harris, since becoming bishop in 1995, for the tremendous growth and improvement in the Church.
Dr. Harris is further remembered according to Lutherans for his role played in raising resources for the Church relief and building a firm relationship with the Lutheran World Federation, which brought tremendous relief support to the Church.
The late Bishop Sumoward E. Harris was born January 12, 1948
