IPNews-Maryland County: William VS Tubman University located in Harper city Maryland county President has promised to uplift the University through its 500 acres of farmland in Barrobo district #3 Maryland County.

The declaration however comes as a result of low budgetary allocation the University has experienced.

Speaking at a news conference in the county yesterday, the University’s president, Dr. Elloit Wreh Wilson disclosed that the institution is faced with difficulties ranging from low budgetary allocation and delay in payment by donor.

Dr. Wilson named the Golden Verolleum Liberia (GVL), Maryland Oil Palm Plantation (MOPP), Cavalla Rubber Cooperation (CRC) as institutions sponsoring students at the university.

“Since I was appointed as president of the University more than two years ago, there have been financial difficulties at the institution” he disclosed.

Dr Wilson disclosed that the University currently has 500 acres of farmland donated by the people of Barrobo on which cassava and pineapple are being cultivated with a plan to plant cocoa shortly.

“We have strategized to embark on the planting of the cocoa very soon on the 500 acres of land as long as we harvest the cassava and the pineapple. Cocoa nurseries covering about two miles have been prepared. It will add more value to the university” he mentioned.

According to Dr. Wilson, the farmland will serve for both income generation purpose and as a research area for students who have enrolled in the college of agriculture and food sciences.

Dr Wilson call on the national government including professors and lecturers to dedicate their services in ensuring the agriculture program comes to reality.
