IPNews-Monrovia: In an effort to beef up the collaborative fight to contain the deadly coronavirus pandemic in Liberia, the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) coronavirus response Taskforce, in collaboration with the Risk Communication Pillar of the Incident Managment Team-COVID-19, has trained and send out 6000 ‘Active Case Finders’ in various communities.

Speaking Tuesday at the launch of the project, Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee said the Term of Reference (TOR) for the case finders is an effort to continue the fight against the deadly Coronavirus Pandemic firstly within Montserrado’s 17 districts.
The exercise comes days when health authorities in Liberia reported that a woman who recently tested positive to the deadly COVID-19 has reportedly gone into hiding, heightening debate and rising fears of stigmatization and whether or not the government should release the names of those infested with the virus.

According to Mayor Koijee, the exercise is intended to collect and process data on related health situations in the Country.
“The case finders will be doing regularly temperature checks accessing situations that show semblance of the virus like cold, cough, severe breathing etc.” Koijee indicated.
The Lord Mayor further revealed that 329 recruited individuals from each community are folks known within those communities and will continue to share health tips.

Each of the 329 recruits he said has a contract with the MCC to visit 50 homes daily.
Furthermore, the City Mayor added that all samples collected will be sent to MCC Data Center; subsequently the Data Analysts will then send findings to the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) for action.

“With this, we are hopeful we can have hands on happenings within Monrovia and parts beyond on how we coping as a nation and people within the hotspot” Koijee noted.

House to House search won’t work in Liberia. Liberians do not trust the health system. They are afraid that they will be announced positive even if they are not because the belief that government doing this to get money.

Conducting house-to-house search for coronavirus patients is good but the health workers or those trained to execute the exercise are to be from those communities that they are going to be sent into, because there is mistrust between the people and the government about this particular coronavirus outbreak in Liberia.

  4. This is not what its suppose to be.. Those 6000 person will be @ high risk.. The disease is contagious and these folks going to people houses only pose more risks on themselves and the nation.
These people are not medically train to identify those signs and symptoms of Covid-19 and other sicknesses that has the same symptoms and signs.
This will surely result to people hiding themselves from this team even if they are not affected with this disease.

The team will surely have to report to their bosses so as to let their bosses know that they are working, whether they actually see a covid-19 patient or not!..

Let the MCC leave this to health practioners who took oath to serve humanity whenever and however!!..

  5. As a health personal I find this to be alarming one. Two what health
background does anyone of these people have to take on such task??
