Liberia CIVID-19 Crisis: Gov’t Suspends School; Banned Public Gathering, others…..

IPNews-Monrovia: In the wake of the discovery of Liberia first case of COVID-19, earlier this  morning, the government of Liberia, has announced the indefinite closure of all schools across the country.

The government stated that its decision is to ensure that there no further spread of the coronavirus.

A Ministry of Information press release this afternoon stated that given the confirmation of the emergence of the COVID-19 early this morning by President George M. Weah and the Special Presidential Committee on the status of COVID-19 in Liberia, the Ministry of Education has hereby mandated that All SCHOOLS (INCLUDING INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING) to suspend classes for one week, beginning tomorrow Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

The government stated that the decision is necessary to allow the health authorities conduct a complete surveillance and tracing of those said to have arrived on the flight along with the infected person, and all those who they might have come in contact with.

The government of Liberia maintains that the decision a proactive measure intended to minimize the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 23, subject to further assessment of the situation and urges all strictly abide by this instruction.
