UBA Launches ‘Teens Account’ in Liberia

IPNews-Monrovia: The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Liberia Limited as part of efforts to get teenagers acquainted with saving and other banking activities, has introduced “UBA Teens” – a savings account tailored for teenagers in the country.

UBA Teens which was actually launched on Friday, January 24, at the B.W. Harris High School on Broad Street, is the newest service provided by the bank.

The service allows teenagers between 13 and 17 years to open and run an account with the consent of their parents or guardians. A teen will have to be accompanied by his or her parents or bring a valid document from the parent before opening an account.

Speaking to journalists at the launch, UBA Liberia Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager Melody Mezay-Ketter said Teens Account holder stands to benefit an array of bonuses like 13-month cash reward, 50 percent discount on debit cards, and complimentary invite to UBA Teens event and access to all digital banking products offered by UBA.

Mezay-Ketter added that most students have shown interest in saving and that they want their own account. She then encouraged parents or guardians to take advantage of the service by helping their children understand the culture of saving.

“The UBA Teens account will not only alleviate the difficulties parents face when the need arises to disburse funds to their kids when they are unavailable, but will also introduce teenagers to the banking sector at an early stage,” she said.

“Both parents and teens will be able to monitor said account and do transactions, based on the mandate issued on the account.”

UBA Teens is one of several products the bank is introducing to support the Central Bank of Liberia’s vision of financial inclusion for all Liberians.

The service has also been launched in the 20 countries UBA operates in Africa.

Students of the B.W. Harris Episcopal High School, at the event, were excited about the possibility of owning an account and said it will enlighten their minds about the banking sector.
