IPNews-Monrovia: The Steering Committee of Lofa County Sport Association, has disclosed plans for the erection of a state of the art sport stadium and a library, in honor of President George Manneh Weah and former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai in Lofa County.
Addressing a major news conference over the weekend at the Monrovia City Hall in appreciation to the team and the massive support to the county, the Co-chairperson of the County’s Steering Committee, Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, noted that the stadium and the library will be erected in honor of the two Liberian leaders for the numerous roles and sacrifices in the development of Liberia and the county.
The Monrovia City Mayor expressed his appreciation to every stakeholder of the county as well as prominent sons and daughter for their immeasurable contribution and showmanship for the county during this county meet.
Co-chairman Koijee also expressed his appreciation to the Chairman of the county’s Steering Committee, Momo Cyrus, for his leadership that did not only show good display of the team, but also brought all citizens together at the table of brother and sisterhood as well as a sense of belonging and unity.
He announced to the county that as leaders of the Steering Committee of Lofa County Sports Association, they enjoyed mountains of support from the citizens and team; hence, with the permission of the Vice Juror of the county, they intend maintaining the team for the ensuing year.
“It was not just about soccer or kickball, but coming back to harness a sense of unity. And to our boys and girls, we say thank you for your display of talents, humility and tolerance during these tournaments,” Mayor Koijee expressed.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the County’s Steering Committee, Momoh Cyrus, appreciated Mayor Koijee and all for the momentum brought to the county meet especially the massive moral and physical support to the county sports team.
Cyrus described the Lofa County teams as the “Best team” in the tournament, despite the fact that they did not make it to the finals of the tournament.
The Lofa County Sports Steering Chairman expressed optimism that his teams will clinched the third trophy of the tournament; as they battle their rival, Maryland County.
Also speaking, former Lofa County Representative and Minister of Labor, Moses Y. Kollie, expressed his appreciation to the team and as well called on all Lofians to rally behind their team as they battle for the third place in the National County Sports Meets.
For his part, the Superintendent of the County, William Tamba Kambah, also thanked the team, technical staff and the steering committee for their moral, financial and physical support to the team and county.
According to him, one of the ways to bring unity and development to the county is through sports. He therefore, vowed to bring unity amongst citizens of the county regardless of their political, ethnic or tribal affiliations.
Meanwhile, Mayor Koijee has disclosed that the construction of the two facilities is placed around US$1.5million. He vowed to ensure that their target are met through fundraising from both home and away.
In a related development, Mayor Koijee has disclosed the hosting of an award night in appreciation to the teams, technical staff, organizing committee as well as key stakeholders who made the teams participation in the tournament a success.
