IPNews-Monrovia: The Commercial Court, has ordered three ISPs, namely Nanasat, K3 Telecommunication and Satcom, to close down the source of illegal streaming of football games in Liberia.
The Commercial Court granted a request by the Consolidated Group, compelling the three ISPs to block live streaming of the events to viewers in Liberia. In the process, the court also closed down K3 Telecommunication indefinitely.
This decision means that Satcom, alongside Nanasat and K3 Telecommunication, will be obliged to shut down the source of “illegal streams of football games pending an outcome of the Action of Damages for Wrong by Attachment” lawsuit filed by the Consolidated Group.
People who watch live football matches from the Spanish League (La Liga), the Bein Sport channels from Saudi Arabia, the SuperSport channels from South Africa, and the English Premier League on computer set-top boxes and other devices, will find the service blocked for now.
It is not clear whether the three affected service providers will abide by the court’s decision and refrain from screening live football matches in Liberia. In the lawsuit, Consolidated Group asked the court to close down the defendants permanently from “illegally accessing and using the intellectual properties of these football governing bodies to the public”.
