Vice President Jewel Howard –Taylor Reminds Senators to uphold Campaign Promises

Vice President Jewel Howard –Taylor is calling on members of the Upper House to uphold campaign promises made during the 2017 elections.

Addressing members of the August body on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the first sitting of the second session of the 54th National
Legislature, the Liberian Vice President and head of the Liberian Senate Dr. Jewel Howard –Taylor urged every member of the Liberian Senate to remain aware of their actions or inactions towards the peace, stability, unity
and development of their various constituencies, as promised during the 2017 election.

“I charge you to always bear in mind that the everyday choices we make during this Session, though singular in intent, when taken, affects the entire country, and as such we must be prepared to take full responsibility for the decisions taken and the attendant consequences on the wellbeing of our people and state of our Nation.” Vice President Taylor stated.

Taylor cautioned all Senators to remember the period of the 2017 elections and the subsequent overwhelming mandate from the People of Liberia which catapulted each Senator to National Leadership.

Let us be reminded of the sweat, tears and blood of many others, on whose shoulders we now stand to superintendent our Country to nobler heights, and also remember that their sacrifices are note worthy, and should serve as a constant reminder to work for the common good and subjugate our narrow-minded interests.” The Vice President.

She further recalled that on January 22nd , 2018, she and His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah was sworn into Office as the nation’s 24th President and vice president on the party Coalition of Democratic Change, for which she remain eternally grateful to serve in the capacity as the First Female Vice President of the Republic and also the first female President of the Liberian Senate marking the historic placement devolves upon her onerous responsibilities in the execution of her duty to humanity and optimism, assumed in the best consideration of the uncommon opportunity given to her as one of the many building blocks of the nation.

Vice President: “We must all strive to perform our duties in ways that justify the confidence reposed in us; we should be reminded that history will judge us harshly and unsympathetically if we fail to justify the trust and confidence of our people,”

Lest we forget, irrespective of the length of our tenure of service, the day of reckoning will surely come. I believe this singular thought should abate the normal human tendencies of self and urge us on in the performance of our sacred duties as enshrined in the Constitution, Statutes and Standing Rules of the Liberian Senate the Vice president said to members of the upper house.”

The Vice President on the occasion marking the first sitting of the second session of the 54 th Legislature extend deepest condolence for the sudden demise of Mrs. Bindu Taylor Cooper, beloved WIFE and Life Partner of Senator Oscar Cooper from Margibi County and Counselor Francis Y.S.Garlawulo, member of the 51 st Legislature from Bong county who was also succumbed by the cruel hands of death on May 14, 2018.

She lauded the efforts of some high Ranking Senators in person of Senator Saah H. Joseph and Senator Dr. Henrique F. Tokpah and openly the Freshman Senator from Sinoe County, Senator Augustine S. Chea.
