LIB. Suffers Leaky at 131 Border Points , LIS’ DMA Designate disclosed

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-2 March 2018: The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Deputy Minister for Administration designate Moses Gamodeh has disclosed that over 170 border entry points across Liberia, one hundred and thirty one are said to be extremely porous, which makes the country vulnerable to all sorts of illegally crossing.

 Making the disclosure on Thursday March 1, 2018 during his confirmation hearing held at the Capitol Building, the commissioner designate pointed out that the illegal importation of narcotics and other substances are amongst serious challenges facing the LIS over the years, a situation he promised to address, when confirmed by the Liberian Senate.

 Most of Liberia’s illegally entries are said to be carry out by foreigners who have recently occupied the country’s gold fields in the southeast and other parts of the country, a report says.

 The New LIS’ DMA Designate also promised to work with the legislature in taking measures that will restrain such unlawful entry of Ghanaians and other nationals in the country.

 Due to the leaky, he said before Senate committee on Transport that at least 92 Ghanaians who are reported to have entered Liberia illegally have been repatriated back home by the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS).

 Mr. Gamodeh underscored the need to address the LIS logistical constraints in order to properties mend the country’s border points.

 “Just the other day, we repatriated 92 Ghanaians back home as they came because, they entered illegally” commissioner Gamodeh disclosed informed the Senate hearing committee.

 One of the LIS functions is to Effective and proper management of the borders and strategic entry points, with the installation of database and well equipped immigration officers at all major border points.

Meanwhile the commissioner designate has vowed upon his confirmation to work with his bosses in making sure that efficiency and proficiency in the performance of duties be achieved.
