Hike in Price of Gas Is Totally Unacceptable-LPRC Reaffirms

IPNews- Monrovia, Liberia 6 December 2017-The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company or LPRC strongly condemns the hike in the price of gasoline and fuel products on the Liberian market by commercial gas peddlers, & drivers.

The LPRC warned that the act those not satisfy personal interest, but undermine efforts of the government and the LPRC in ensuring the continuous prices control of gasoline and other products on the Liberian market.

The Management of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company in a statement stated that it was unthinkable to hear reports that some unscrupulous individuals were creating artificial shortage of petroleum products on the Liberian market for personnel gains, which has led to hiking of transportation fares and gasoline prices across the Country.

The Management noted: “We are extremely concern and like to inform the general public that the information being propagated in the public about the shortage of petroleum products on the Liberian market is far from reality, and it has no flavor of truth and any person or persons found to have designed such diabolical scene at the detriment of customers will be dealt with in keeping with in accordance with law”.

LPRC further disclosed that it currently have in storage  over 30,000 metric tons of mixed petroleum products in its shore tanks  that are capable of sufficiently serving the Liberian market for the next two months and there is no need for fears.

“ Even though we do not know the actual intend of individuals involved in spreading this falsehood about the shortage of gasoline on the market, but we are committed to ensuring and working alongside officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to advert any attempt by filling stations or individuals to hiked the prices of petroleum products in order to create artificial shortage”. Management stated.

In a related development, the management of the LPRC is encouraging the general public to report any individuals or filling station caught selling petroleum products above the approved pump price of $US 3.25 or its Liberian dollar equivalent of LDR 400.00 per gallon of gasoline, and $US 3.31 or its Liberian dollar equivalent of LRD 410.00 per gallon of fuel oil.

At the same the LPRC calls on citizens not to panic, as there are sufficient gasoline and fuel in the country to serve the public.

It can be recalled in the last week, Commercial drivers in and around the Monrovia and its environs were seen hiking transportation fares as a result of filling stations creating artificial shortages and increasing pump prices of petroleum products.
